REPORT: APRIL 2022 MISSIONS STORYTELLING AND OUTREACH

BACKGROUND

Missions 1 is a missions support organization that uses storytelling tools to enlighten Christians about Missionaries and their efforts, as well as motivate Christians to give support (e.g. financial, material, spiritual, voluntary, etc. ) to missions work, in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of missions. Missions 1’s efforts directly improve the livelihoods of underprivileged and neglected communities where the missionaries work.

From Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th April 2022, Missions 1 embarked on a storytelling effort and missions outreach to the Landba and Bu people living in Nasarawa State, Nigeria.

• The Landba people are from Nasarawa State in central Nigeria. They are mainly found in Lafia, Akwanga, Keffi, and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas of the state.
• The Buh people are from Nasarawa State in central Nigeria. They are mainly found in the Wamba local government area of the state.

In line with the vision of Missions 1, the objectives of the effort were as follows:

OBJECTIVES

1. Minister salvation, healing, and deliverance to the people living in the communities, and other nearby communities in Nasarawa State.
2. Provide medical treatment to the people of the communities.
3. Minister to the missionaries working among the people groups in these regions.
4. Provide financial and material support to these missionaries during the outreach.
5. Record testimony from community members about missionary work among the unreached people groups in these areas.
6. Deploy stories of the testimonies in video, photo, audio, and written formats via media platforms, in order to create awareness of and raise support for the missionaries and their efforts.

OUTCOME AND IMPACT

1. Throughout the outreach period, we ministered prayer, salvation, healing, deliverance, and medical treatment to over 500 people in total.
2. Eighteen missionaries were given financial aid worth N145,000 to support their efforts. We also distributed 509 clothing items, 28 pairs of footwear, 2 bags, 50 headgears, 2 caps, 3 toys., 3 feeding bottles, 4 combs, 1 belt and 1 pregnancy delivery kit. N209,000 was spent on Medication and this was given to over 150 persons.
3. A skill acquisition training was held at the Wadogo community where members of the community were taught soap making.
4. Compelling stories (video, photo, audio, and written formats) of members of the communities about missionary efforts among the unreached people groups in these communities were recorded. Deployment of these stories will be made on media platforms after the videos and pictures have been edited to create awareness and raise support for the missionaries and their efforts.

CHALLENGES

1. The communities lack trained and qualified teachers in their schools.
2. One of the communities visited has no access to safe drinking water. Members of the community consume contaminated water from which livestock also drink, making them sick and unhealthy.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1. The communities will benefit greatly from the construction of a borehole.
2. To tackle the short supply of qualified teachers, the NYSC officials can be implored to send corps members to these communities, which would help to raise the educational standards in these schools.
